Azealia Banks To Star In RZA's 'COCO'

Azealia Banks has turned her 15 minutes into an industry. The controversial rapper turned her beef with Iggy Azalea into booking more gigs, a playboy cover spread, and leading role in RZA's newest film. Oh, and her next album, Business & Pleasure is in her words, "half-finished." So no matter what you think of her she is handling her business.

According to Deadline, Azealia has been picked to star in RZA’s (Wu-Tang Clan) feature film Coco. The film from Lionsgate and Codeblack Films has her playing role it would seem she is born for; a young aspiring Brooklyn rapper. In the movie her family wants her to finish college and she just wants to rap. She finds a compromise, in the NY spoken word scene, between her dreams and her parents’ wishes.

The movie actually has a really interesting premise and could be something special. The only issue is can this girl really act. If she proves she can we may see a whole other level from this young musician. I really hope she rises to the occasion.

The movie will also star Common (Selma, Just Wright), Jill Scott (Why Did I Get Married, Baggage Claim), Lucien Laviscount (Scream Queens, Honeytrap), Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black, Selma) and Hana Mae Lee (Pitch Perfect, Pitch Perfect 2). It will be directed by Wu-Tang Clan leader Rza (The Man with the Iron Fist) and written by Nicole Jefferson Asher (Taina, Toddworld).  Coco is in pre production now.
