This is the second trailer for the former Eminem project Southpaw. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Prisoners), Forest Whitaker (The Butler, The Last King of Scotland) and Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, About Time). It may have been originally meant for Em buy from the look of this trailer Gyllenhaal "owns" this role.
Gyllenhaal plays the role of Billy Hope a boxer at the height of his fame, with everything a man could want. His wife Maureen played by McAdams wants him to stop fighting so he can spend more time with his family. He finally agrees and during a party announces he is giving up the sport that has given him so much.
Everything changes as his wife is accidentally killed during an altercation at the party and he loses his custody of his daughter. Now he is focusing on boxing to gain back all he has left and to become a champion not only in sport but in life.
Southpaw is written by Kurt Sutter of Sons of Anarchy fame and directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) it will be released on July 24th.
